Furthermore, in all regions around the world, the potential for electrification of the different end uses is still vastly underutilised and urgent action is required to unlock it, even before focusing on the hard-to-abate sectors.
As GSEP, we have a unique role to play. It is our duty to support business and industry leaders to identify and lift hurdles to advance the decarbonisation and electrification of our economies. Our members are committed to decarbonisation and to developing smarter power grids that can empower customers; enhance system efficiency, reliability and resilience; and reduce long-term costs. To help, GSEP is prioritising research of electrification trends and the creation of partnerships and synergies with all stakeholders to build the next normal.
Ultimately all actors involved – businesses, policy makers, and citizens – must play an active role in accelerating the clean energy transition. A level playing field with other fuels must be created, the deployment of nascent technologies supported, and the flow of credible information regarding the benefits of electrification and a clean energy transition must be bolstered. In short, we must all work together to ensure abundant, reliable, affordable, and clean energy for our communities, so that economic and social progress can be achieved.
